I mean, people go all out on the negativity when a new patch meant to stop homebrewers arrives, now we'll be more negative about them when we realise they do not achieve their goals for it?
It works much better. It's still slow, but it's nice to see that it's considerably faster. I was testing Ocarina of Time transfer. It usually takes a couple of minutes. It took about seconds now. Improvement, but it could be better.
So if I already have GeckoOS and homebrew installed and then I update, that stuff will still work right? Not necessarily a bad thing. Just a bit surprising. I found it surprising that people felt a need to do this, I mean, lots of emulators, yay, we can go through a long process that has a chance of bricking the wii so we can do what's been possible on our computers from the start, just like all the homebrew games. Plus if someone eventually makes a media player like XBMC, then I can just dump it back at my dad's and let him use it instead of the slow ethernet of his old modded Xbox.
I forgot the Wii had updates, it doesn't inform me unlike my PS3. In any case, I don't believe my modded Wii will be affected, I don't recall using the Twilight Hack whatsoever. It doesn't? It always lights up blue for me, either when an update is available or when anyone Nintendo too, to inform for their updates sends me a message. It's neat Nintendo's messages also include an update button to get right to business when they notify of an update via that interface. Maybe you have your Connect 24 off?

I was pretty shocked last night when I tried copying Tetris Party to the SD card, and it only took eleven seconds.
I'm not surprised they have taken this step first, as it's probably necessary for them to later implement the Shop Channel's "download to SD" option. I ran this test before and after I updated Don't download this update if you care about homebrew. Wait for a patched update that installs everything, without deleting anything. Haven't taken any times but still seems to take a long time to copy a or block file.
Keep in mind that the transfer speed depends heavily on the type of SD card you have. The system update should improve speeds for all types of cards, but the actual speed will still be better if you have a high-speed SD card.
For instance, my card is pretty fast, and I was able to copy Tetris Party blocks, quite large in only 11 seconds. Lindy just said that it took him twice that long to copy over Secret of Mana, which is a much smaller file. We can infer from these data that his SD card is much slower than mine.
I use a run of the mill Kingston 2. Before this update a game with more than blocks would take about 8 - 10 minutes, and from SD to Wii Memory 2 - 3 minutes. Yeah, my card is one of the cheapy Kingstons as well, but still, the time to copy files have been cut by two-thirds. Yeah its a lot faster! Faster than redownloading it for sure! I also saw that this is supposed to help disc read times. I haven't actually checked though! Discs boot up faster as well, I think booting up games in general got a bump, my guess Nintendo optimized the coding on the Wii OS and the encryption process.
Like a few others in this thread I decided to test the improved functionality. Yeah its actually bearable to use the SD card! Still not amazing but it is better! Nintendo why did it take so long to optimize a line of code!?!?!?!
Half-hooray for Nintendo. Quote from: Caliban Half-hooray for Nintendo. I did each transfer twice to reduce the likelihood of running into some bizarre exception. Still, the increase in speed is dramatic. Maybe I need a faster SD card. I still prefer Hot Buttered Camels, oh well. Homebrew does it, but not Nintendo. Quote from: Jonnyboy Finally, a useful system update!
I'm confused. I thought all the online games can't be copied because online data or whatever. That's why Brawl saved data can't be copied. Or is that just saved data? Oh, so it's not a hardware issue? That's a good sign, I guess. SD cards keep getting cheaper, so I could buy a huge one if I thought I'd have a use for it. This is correct. The reason why saves from an online enabled game can't be moved to SD card because the friend code data is in that save.
