I can't reduce the size of a filesystem. I know that this was a feature added in AIX 5. It's not working for me. I'm finding APARs for this not working for concurrent volume groups in 5. And 5. Can anyone verify if this feature should be available in my level of AIX? Is there enough free block to reduce to G? Perhaps try with a smaller reduction? HTH, p5wizard. I hope that this helps your understanding, but organise downtime to take such actions as they are more complex then growing a filesystem.

Find all posts by rbatte1. I always thought that LVM is smart enough and can do space reduction in fly also if reduced LPs contain data. Is there an option to check if given LP is free or contain filesystem data?

Is there an option to do it online? Play with defrag command? Join Date: Aug Its just more to this than file system size reduction. You have around 1. Now, 1. How are the disks configured? Disk allocation is absolutely wrong, GB disk will definitely degrade the performance. Did you configure the disks queue depth values? What version of OS are you using?

What version of oracle are you using? These are few of the many question to ask. Using migratepv will just move the PPs. Their contents will remain the same through the process, although you are right, you can do this with the filesystem in use. The problem is, you will still have your data spread over all the PPs.

What is the eventual aim of all this anyway? It would be good to know. Robin P. Increasing the filesystem size. I have filesystem that is GB I want to increase that filesystem to 1.

Red Hat. Increase the filesystem size. Hi I am using oracle linux 6. Means all the disks available in the VG should have same properties or not required. Please suggest. Hi, all disks properties should be same. If in the ODM, in the Predefined Object Classes, these properties are set, then when you configure a new disk, you don't have to set these properties, because they are automatically set. If these are missing on the ODM, you have to set it manually each time. Hi, I am not an sysadmin, but i have one question difference between jfs2 and nfs file system I am using sap in cluster env.

Hi, man chfs writes this: "Some file system attributes are set at the time the file system is created and cannot be changed.

For the Journaled File System JFS , such attributes include the fragment size, block size, number of bytes per i-node, compression, and the minimum file system size. FS-File system A file system is a hierarchical tree structure of files and directories. Some tasks are performed more efficiently on a file system than on each directory within the file system.

For example, you can back up, move, or secure an entire file system. When a file system is mounted, the logical volume and its contents are connected to a directory in the hierarchical tree structure. You can access both local and remote file systems using the mount command. Labels: LVM. Anonymous March 20, at PM.
